Infrastructure Condition Index by Harmelo

The equipment a building runs on

Identify a piece of equipment, and check whether an authority has published anything about it.

This looks at one appliance. Checking a building looks at a whole property.

  1. Identify the equipment.
  2. Enter the make and model if you have them.
  3. Review any potentially relevant official notices.
  4. Verify against the physical unit and the issuing authority.

Example data · no real notice is shown

This example shows how ICI would flag a potentially relevant notice for verification.

Example data only. It does not identify a real product and does not confirm that a recall applies. Whether a particular unit is covered is determined by the issuing authority, never by this page.

Real notices, with their real publisher, date and wording, appear in the equipment lookup and the notices register when you search for a product.

It cannot confirm that a notice applies to your unit, decode a serial number, or establish warranty, manufacture date or condition.

The lookup asks for

  1. 1 Equipment type
  2. 2 Manufacturer or brand
  3. 3 Where the building is
  4. 4 Model number, only when it can change the answer

Nothing is checked until you ask for it.

  1. Find the rating plateUsually on the side, front or inside the access panel of the unit.
  2. Read only what is printedBrand, model and serial as written. Nothing needs to be opened or moved.
  3. Stop if it is not reachableIf reading it means opening a panel, working at height or touching wiring, stop and call a qualified person.

What to do now

Read the plate on the unit, look it up, and if a notice comes back, open the official notice and check it against the equipment in front of you.

A result can establish
That an authority has published a notice naming this brand, equipment class and jurisdiction, and what the notice says it applies to.
A result cannot establish
That the notice applies to your unit, the manufacture date, warranty status, or the condition of the equipment.
Still to check
The rating plate on the physical unit, and the official notice at the issuing authority. This lookup holds a small governed set of official notices, not every notice ever issued.
